Sure, that's fine with me--any other ideas? Or shall it be just this:

Card description

Card meaning

Artist bio

Once you all are ready, I'll start a thread for that and we can put all the lwb stuff in the thread--in case I get caught up on the Wheel before the project is done, it'll all be accesible...

Arrrrrgggggghhhhh!  I'd forgotten (repressed) the writing bit.:no

Being a completely generous soul, I willingly to (please) hand over the writing part to anyone who wishes to write my bit.  In fact, I am so generous that, if no one 'wishes' to do it, I will resort to coercion.  And how will I coerce at a distance:? .... aha! that's my secret:ro. (That means that I have no idea:?, and wouldn't do it even if I could:?) .... but that is secret too.  Don't tell okay?:ro

Relax, Mythos.

1. Could you say a few words about how you made this card?

 Yes, you can.

2.  Could you say a few words about what this card means to you?

Yes, you can.

3. Could you say a few words about yourself?

Yes, you can.

Um....do the cards get posted here, too?  Do we get to see them as we go along? Or do they all get sent to Ly and don't get to see them until the end?

yeah of course you guys can post the images you made here! if you want, i can also post a temporary "card version" of what you did here (temporary, since we'll be deciding the final layout of the cards after all the images have been finished).

I'd REALLY rather have the layout, font, and borders BEFORE I do anything. I see it all as part of the image, not something to be added later. I've already resigned myself to adjust my design to better "fit in".

I'm also not clear on how the printing is being handled. We're not actually talking about distributing digital master art, are we? (I go to extreme lengths to adjust for color balance on a specific printer.) I've assumed we are each printing our own cards, and one person distributing?

ok, so far there's the choice between black and white borders. then which font to use. then whether to put numbers or not. erm, can we do polls here to make things easier? (i'm really clueless with the add-on things available in the forums)

regarding printing, i was actually thinking of people getting digital versions of all the cards so they can print them all on their own. i just thought that one of the problems that might be encountered with people printing their own assigned cards and doings swaps is that there might be mailing mishaps along the way (like, some cards might get lost).

We can do polls. You have to start a new topic. When you do, there's a link at the bottom of the posting box that says Add a Poll. Click that and you can set up the poll.

keep in mind that not everybody has printing capabilities, and if they do, not necessarily color printing......I for one, do not. Swaps by mail can become very problematic and confusing. Digital distribution by way of a compressed Zip file seems to be the most efficient way of handling this.

personally, I will have these printed by a local oufit as sheets, not cards and preserve this in a binder. turning these into useable cards is a project in itself, an undertaking that I will forego.....but that's up to each individual.

As I said further up - I would MUCH rather BlueToy did the printing.... We would get decent backs that way........... and good quality cards.

I would be happy for us to chip in to pay for it.

If we all get them to do ourselves - let's face it, they will get into the wild and end up on e-bay. And we won't have a "special to us who made it" deck any more :(

BTW - I'm not wild about the cards being posted publicly here. Bad People will copy them.......... there are loads of tales from professionals about how their work has shown up on the websites of others.... If they ARE posted here - we'd need a big COPYRIGHT thing over their middles, and very low res, so they'd be useless to others......

Me too. I agree with Gregory. I rather have one person doing the printing. And since BlueToy's previous decks were absolutely wonderful quality, I would like that too. I don't mind paying for it.

we better vote on this too, I agree with you for the most part, but earlier on, that part of the discussion got dropped.

BlueToy needs to OK this because he'll be put to some trouble and expense.

How many copies need to be printed for distribution and would that be enough for his printer to do the job at a decent price?

Bottom line, what will be the cost per deck?

Undoubtedly there will be copies of the deck left over.
What becomes of them?

It's not that I, personally, object to the excess decks being sold and Blue pocketing the $$ as compensation for his troubles, BUT.....there are professional artists involved in this project and THEY may have different feelings about how their art is being sold/distrubuted/marketed.

If it were just you and I and other amateur enthusiasts, I wouldn't bother raising this point, nobody is going to get rich on my poor excuse for art, but we're not alone in this and truth be told.....it's the talent and reputation of the professional artists here that will be the backbone and drawing power of this deck.

having said that, we need their approval.....and we have to determine cost per deck (plus shipping) and see if people are willing and able to pay (some are not able).

edited:

I agree it's a bad idea for the art to be posted here unless there's a huge and imposing COPYRIGHT stamp across the face.

Going by other projects of this kind that I have joined in, I would say it would take one copy for each participant + one for Adam for hosting us and because he is the most serious collector known to Tarot Art. :D

(and one for BlueToy if he isn't doing a card himself :D)

Which would be around 25 in total.

There need be none left over. Small print runs CAN be done by small print shops.

But if there HAD to be - BlueToy could sell them - or Adam could - to offset the print cost to the rest of us ? Cheap bags would be fine to ship in - Dollarama have them for 50 cents CDN.... Perfectly adequate !

Blue is far away, and worried about mail...

I could print 22 copies, (Or one for each participant,) and mail them off pretty easily.
It wouldn't cost you anything.
I have a six color inkjet.
They would be a little fragile, but beautiful.

If people would pay for their own postage, that would be nice.
If not, I could cover that too.

If you don't want blank backs, I would insist on a full bleed repeat pattern, though, so that I don't waste a lot of misregistered reject pages.

People could also have the option of uncut sheets, if they preferred. (Better if you want to laminate your copy.)

Very generous of you to offer, OP.  Of course we should pay for postage and throw in a bit extra for the paper and ink and envelopes as well.

that's a very generous offfer!

I'll send my $$ via Paypal when you let us know you're ready. (I already have your ID) and since this is a special printing, I will pay accordingly.

I've also emailed you my completed "Tower", now you and Blue can both have a good laugh.

Thank you very much OP!!

PS. attractive backs , yes absolutely

Not all of us live that far away from Blue Toy (like moi ;)), but the majority do.... so being in a trés democratique mood, and being used to paying more for postage than for most decks, 'tis okay avec moi about wherever the deck is printed.

The back idea sounds like a good one, as does Papageno's idea for asking professional artists how they feel about their work/money issues. Not being a professional artist myself, this is a matter of no concern for me, but I could well understand how it could be for those who are.

I do have one small concern.  If my Hanged Man turns out as I hope, I would like to use a larger, and more colourful version - to fit with my deck-in-progress. Would anyone have objections to that?  In other words, does this Hanged Man need to be unique to our collaborative deck?  It is okay if it does.  I'll be using different media anyway for this one ... maybe!.

While I would love to see the cards here ... even if only to stick my tongue out at Papageno when I discover that he need not don a bag out of embarrassment ... I am unskilled in the way of computer art and wouldn't know how the watermark my finished product.

I finally got hold of my son and hanged him ... er ... in an upright position, without the actual hanging.  I can assure you that he is standing here with his 'Mum's-on-the-internet-so-let's-interrupt-her' antenna working overtime.  Haven't checked the photos yet, and have no idea how I am going to actually put them together.  They are only for use as a drawing model, but I need them to be right.

If that makes no sense, and if none of this makes any sense, it is Monday morning here and I am thick and chunky brained ... or at least that is my excuse.:f

mythos:)

Wasn't there a suggestion that we DO try make a few bucks off this to help Adam pay for the cost of hosting this forum?  I don't mean that they are sold to the public, but rather there be a set price for each deck.  I imagined to price would be enough to cover the costs and hassles of printing and finishing the deck, and shipping, etc, and acouple few bucks left over for the forum.

I would really, really like to see how individual cards are going.  It would be an inspriation.  maybe.  My card still looks really great up in the head, I guess the wheels aren't working to get out of the head (my card is the chariot):bl

I am not posting mine in full here; I don't want it snaffled. I MIGHT post a low res one with a whacking great copyright thing over it....

Unless the software will allow a protected area where only participants can go ?

It was me suggested Adam should get money. That was when BlueToy was the favoured printer ! If Spud is only doing enough for each of us + Adam to have a copy, maybe we can have an idea of how much to chip in for the forum ??

We don't have to decide all this now.  We've got great offers from both BlueToy and OnePotato and lots of people working on cards already but we still haven't signed up enough people to cover the trumps!

So the details of how to do the deck, who to pay and how much etc. perhaps can be on the agenda for when we get closer to manifesting this project.

I mean, getting it out of our heads

:f

and into proper electron form!

:cl

(Alas, there's no "electron" smiley!)

RECRUIT YOUR FRIENDS!  (or perhaps better yet....TOTAL STRANGERS!)

We have five cards unloved, unwanted, unspoken for.

I think it'd be great if all the cards were done by different people. Who should we clamour for?

YAY, MORWENNA!

Gregory, my card has words cut from the newspapers glued as the background. I bought some  rubber cement in anticipation of trying the Final Step in making the card, and needing to Undo it...remember Rubber Cement?  I can't wait to smell it again!

Well, I better join you in running around. I haven't even started with my sketch yet! Sorry folks, if I am delaying matters, but these things often take quite some time with me. I have to find the time to sit down and start. Since I have the High Priestess, that does require a bit of peace of mind (which is very rare for me these days, unfortunally... :f

What hurry?  We don't even have volunteers for all the cards yet. No pressure!

Unless you WANT pressure?  :P

I have gone off backgrounds because it will save time not thinking about it, and I was working on mine last night and beloved came up behind me and said it was lovely....
So I might just leave it - even though I had thought to..... - well, never mind !!!!

I have had a BRILLIANT idea.

Why doesn't one of us participants (I will, if I can have two idents there, as I've already got one !) set up a secure folder on flickr for posting the cards that only we participants, and Adam of course, can get into (whoever sets it up would have to have all our e-mail addresses and invite people in...) End of copying problem ?

I say flickr as I (and my secret friends ;))  KNOW their secure areas are secure; I have heard of people having issues with photobucket....

http://www.flickr.com/ - what do you all think ?

Sounds as a great idea!

Would that be for the finished cards or also to show their evolution?

Well I’m beyond the sketch stadium – at almost 60% of the process and then it hit me: I’m stuck even been through my old school projects to find inspiration (it gave me 1 great bit of image but further not much)

:s

Well - depending on how MANY versions people want to upload, and monthly upload limits etc....... either ! People would have to send their cards to whoever manages the area - unless we give everyone here the password - would that be easier ? I will try setting a new one up RIGHT NOW !

OK - I think I've done one............... SO - if anyone has anything they want uploading, let me know.... And for participants only, if you give me your e-mails, I will allow you in ! (not that there is anything POSTED yet......) I called it tarotcollectors..... I THINK this is the link.... and I think I will have to do the uploading........ If you want in, you will need to have or create a yahoo ID.

Jackdaw will take a card if there are still some left when she's finished moving house.

If you need my Yahoo ID : pagangds

I have nothing to upload...unless you count neurotic anxiety

Thanks for doing this!

I need email addies to allow people in, and I will need things to upload from people - I will supply an e-mail address at that time, in PRIVATE !!!!

If your e-mail is also your yahoo....... I'll see if I can allow you in with just that - but not now, as MOSTLY I sign in to my REAL account, and leave it signed in to that..

Now I'm really confused.  I think that I have been filling in too many forms and writing too many covering letters this morning, and my brain has turned to mush.  I failed Forms in Seconday College.

Okay ... tries to think .... and get this straight ... when (and it is a big when) I get my image finished, I contact Gregory and send the image to her.  I create a yahoo address and send that too.  I get invited onto flickr to see the images.  I think that I have that right...maybe?

I would prefer it if one member printed all the cards, we paid for them and postage and a donation for Adam, or extras to sell for Adam (depending on results of a poll on the issue).  My printer is truly cheapsh*t ... and my handling of technology is truly moronic.  I don't trust myself to be able to print a deck worthy of the name ... deck.

By the way ... do we have a name for the deck?  Tarot of the Head-Banging Rabbit:P?  Okay ... forget that!

mythos:)

I think we send the artwork to BlueToy as he is the one coordinating the artwork, adding the titles and backs. He is the one who needs to have the images.

Perhaps he will provide us with an email address that can accept large attachments, so we can send the scans to him.
