Hmmm. so i got paranoid and took out my ruler and last year's deck :D The card size is indeed 3 by 4.5. The image size set for the deck is 2.5 by 3.75.If we took out the 1/8 inch bleed on all sides of the card, we're left with 2.75 by 4.25. If we were to maximize the width of the image to 2.75, the height - following proportions - would be 4.127 inches - this is how Photoshop computed it. The image below is how it will look like (red being the bleed border). that thin white line on the top and at the bottom will be what's left of our text space.

ETA: The 2 cards in the image I attached in the post prior to this one use the 2.5 by 3.75 image dimensions set for this project. That's how the 1/4 inch text space Papoon is referring too looks like.

Well, that's why we have a consensus. You think some things look like shit other people don't. These things are subjective anyway. And besides, collaborative projects involve give and take. Not everything that everyone wants to appear in the project will be there.

That red is NOT OK, whatever.:cl:cl:cl Not even if it went blue.

And I didn't think that font was fancy (no 5). As in the one you said before was OK without the pinstripes, debra ?

Sheesh, people, sometimes,,,,,

Ok, when we set up the parameters for this years card, the sizes we defined were quite specific.  Changing them now because some people don't like them is not fair, and will NOT be done.  So the card will be 3 inches by 4 1/2 inches, with individual design area of 2.5 inches by 3.75 inches.

I am the one who asked Ly to do the curved border because in last years cards the border design got trimmed by the curved corners for the cards.  It does not have to be curved on the inside.  And there was discussion on the corners last year, and everyone seemed to think that the rounded corners was best, so we are going with them again this year.  No, don't worry about it, decision made.  If we put it up for a general discussion, everyone will think different things, and ones whose thoughts aren't followed will be angry, so I made a decision.  That way you can all be angry with me.

The border is what ties all the cards together.  Without it the deck is a mish-mash of images, with the border, it is a beautiful cohesive deck.  In fact, many mentioned that last year.  There were so many different styles, but they all worked together, and it was because of the border.  I have the lists of cards with and without borders, and believe me, it makes that much of a difference.

And yes, I got it that some of ya'll don't like the blue line.  No reason to get nasty about it at this point.  But doesn't it seem logical that if the deck is the BLUE LINE Collaborative deck, specifying a BLUE LINE, doesn't it seem logical that BLUE would be the color of the deck accents?  The border and the back?   The blue Ly chose was a fairly neutral blue, and once all the cards are put together should work wonderfully.  My choice would bave been a deep royal blue, and wouldn't that have pissed off people?

Oh, and the red on Ly's latest designs, that is just to show the bleed area, wich is 1/8th of an inch around the outside of the cards.  It is just to have the color "bleed" out into that area, so if the cards are cut offcenter, ther is not a white line around them.  So don't even think about worrying about that one.

I popped acouple other designs on Lys first border design, just to see what they looked like, and they look good.  they were done fast and dirty, so the are low res, and not centered, it's just to give you an idea what they look like.

BTW I was thinking how much the blue backs and the blue line border make this year's deck look like those from 1929-30 and I think that looks very cool, very historical.

I can certainly sympathise with that.  I feel pretty grumpy myself.

Everyone needs to click on this video and have a good laugh! It reminds me of this group, and any other group I've belonged to, really-- from NCGR (astrologers) to OTO and beyond...

I was kidding about the red being awful, to try and lighten the mood a bit. I do actually know about bleed and have every sympathy with Ly (and you) !

Great card skad...:ok

And something else to laugh at... I clicked on the video, and, being me, as I am and can't really help, found that the parody of all those old cowboy films (even though I knew it was a parody!) with the music - the whole damned thing, made me quite choked up. What am I like...!? But it was funny too, and very very clever. Thanks, jp.

Thanks, though I'm not after anyone's pity or praise. I volunteered to do this because like most of us, I'm also after what's best for the deck, though I understand we have our own ideas on how this should be. As such, inputs are always welcome. Hopefully most if not all of us agree on a design in the end. Civility is also very much appreciated.

Ok, I am a bit late in the discussion, but...

I also vote for #5. Or #4 or #6 in that row. I kinda like the blue line on each side of the title, but I can live without it :hp. I think that #5 will give enough space to the image and yet still give a uniform feel to the deck, just like the borders did on last years deck. I actually like your first design as well for the same reasons.  I don't like the top row... doesn't feel like a deck and I am also less fond of the square borders.

And thanks Ly, for putting in so much work!:ro

Oh I know you do it for love and stuff - but you work so hard and... :tt:tt:tt

By the way - if anyone here hasn't bought Ly's Bagong Sining deck yet (with two added minis as a bonus !!!) there are VERY few left ! :kt

And I'm not doing this to sell my decks! LOL But that's ok TG has them now. :D

Anyway, I'm thinking I'll just come up with a final 6 sets of designs (which look quite different from each other, and yes, which factor in your inputs so far) and then we can vote from there.

No please don't - you already have our input. Don't let all this start again. Just do what you think best. You are a pro; you have yet to turn out a single deck that looked like crap.

Unless of course I just have poor taste... :cl

i agree with Gregory.  Take the input that's been given and make a decison.  I have learned that asking for input just creates a headache.  Everyone seems to think that since they've been asked for their ideas, their ideas are going to be what is done.   And they are mad if they are not.  Don't let anyone turn this into to big of a chore or you'll never do it again!

It's a collaboration so for me, that means we work together.

We already had a requirement that came from a decision that most people didn't agree to, didn't understand, and didn't like--the blue line.  A few took the requirement seriously, and worked to integrate it into our cards.  Some added it into their images more or less at random. Some ignored it.

I appreciate that Ly is willing to try some different designs, taking into account suggestions, so we can discuss them.

Having just discovered that I seriously misjudged where to stick my work, URGH! :f, I will now go on to post the 2 again.

Mind, borders have me confused. The titles are part of the image (that was apparently missed...??)

Probably problems. Hope I can fix... ;)

No - as debra said in the other thread - NO numbers or titles as any part of the image - Ly adds those, so that they are consistent. Not even as "part of the image".

But you can esily wash over them (if they aren't on a separate layer which you could pull !)

A picture of thumbnails of the cards turned in so far.   Very low res, and very small, just so you can see the wonderful variety.

There is also a new list of who hasn't turned in their cards.  Check it our on the first page.  If the final high res version isn't emailed to me, it's not done yet!

Yike, all I can say is the gremlins must have attacked, because it was on my original doc, but 'disappeared'.  It's all better now.

But while I have your attention, how's the 2 of Swords coming?

I had been working out a method of sand painting for my King of Coins.
At this point I've solved all of the technical issues, but today is the deadline, and I don't have time to produce a final.
So here is an earlier test, for your amusement. (This will not appear in the deck.)
It was done at actual size, so it is just a little too hard to read.
A final would need to be about 150% larger, in order to get a little better clarity, but still maintain the desirable degree of "slop" at the edges that defines the sandy character of the image.
(Too large would lose the character of the sand texture.)

Fashionably late with my last card...Six of Wands.

I took this picture at the Georgia Aquarium....I was so in taken back by the beauty any mystery of all the beautiful creatures that I couldn't help but notice they were all swimming in their own parade.  The fish in the aquarium...the fish is the lakes...the fish in the seas...they are all on an endless parade, unaware of the troubles of man, and without malice.  Great fish, like the shark in this Six of Wands,  parades around with great power and spender, but no matter how dangerous he may seem, he is always accompanied by a parade of smaller fish who follow him without fear because instinctively they know he only takes what he needs and will lead them to their triumph as well.   Perhaps there is a hidden truth behind the six of wands.  Many of us spend our lives parading about boastfully, basking in the glory of our accomplishments, receiving acclaim and earning applause.  But, we have to work so hard for it, don't we?  What if we could be like to shark?  Cherished, revered, and perhaps feared without the trouble of knowing.

OP, what a fascinating medium!  I love sand paintings and have always admired precision in a medium that is so hard to make precise.

WoW! Love your watercolour (?) King of Coins, One Potato :ok
That is the one for the deck, right?
The sand technique is interesting but not nearly as magical for me...

The Two of Swords. Amazingly, only a day late.

(Ceci n'est pas un hommage à Magritte.)

both the empress and queen of cups are being done by their original designers.  thanks for the effort, but it is best to wait until we know if they are available.  Please let me know if you are having any luck getting higher resolution on your current cards.

please do not take more cards until your current cards are complete.

Does anyone know auracana or Morwenna?  She(he) turned in cards to the forum, but never sent in the high resolution version.  They are neat cards, I would like to be able to use them.
