Ack. Sounds like you're feeling 3 of Swords about it, and less like the lady, more like the lion in Strength.

I'd like the 9 of Pentacles for my second Minor Arcana card.

 Thanks,

Now all we have to do is delineate the exact shade of blue. I must get to work on your card now.

Not at all - that's not how I see the 3 of Swords, for one.  I happen to think that the requirement is counterproductive, and I'm entitled to voice my opinion, which I have done.  Enough said.

The few who did vote differently, didn't matter.  The majority (?) rules.

This is why it is important for people to vote - in all sorts of elections. I voted against any kind of unifying anything first time around- but the majority ruled there too. So I went for the least intrusive option this time - and will run with it. It isn't as tough as a cat one didn't want in a card....

I think that anyone who has something to say about a project they are involved in should feel free to say it at any time. This is a fundamental aspect of collaboration.

Two of our members have voiced what I perceive to be legitimate concerns and questions about how the use of the "unifying element" blue line concept is intended to make a better deck. And at least one other has asked for a clarification of what the blue line is all about.

Since the blue line was not my idea, I think perhaps whoever suggested it, or at least someone who voted for it, might better answer these concerns, and perhaps clarify the reasoning behind it, so that we may all proceed with a better understanding of what we are trying to accomplish, and thus produce better work.

OK. My reasoning: I voted for it as I wanted to express an opinion, given that a choice from a group of possibilities was going to be made. My reason was - as I said - that I felt it was the least difficult to work in to a design. I can see working one in to almost anything - that doesn't apply to a cat or a suitcase or whatever the other thing was - and the red line would likely have been brighter.

Skad is the instigator and organiser of this thing, and does a great job. She wanted a unifying something, and I'm happy to go along with her; she had no "say" last time; we all flatly refused to use anything ! (A relief to me as someone said it was to be a chimera deck....)

I don't mean to annoy anyone, but doesn't every artistic medium have its limitations?  I thought incorporating the line in our cards was an artistic challenge but one that so far I enjoyed.  I wasn't the blue line originator so I can't speak to its purpose.  I think that unifying element is OK since we all have such interesting and different styles.  We are all separate but we have a "common thread."

So I was thinking:  What about the protestors putting a blue armband on their characters to voice their opinions?  Sometimes adversities often bring the most poignant art.

And it's not even chimaeric this time, just a blue line (which, I note, does not have to be straight). I was rooting for cats, but it was the blue line that was decided as a unifying element. Nonetheless, I still want to participate in the deck after knowing that there is this little requirement. I think OnePotato's quote a few posts back best expresses how I feel about this current issue:

OnePotato wrote: Since this is the "unifying element" of the deck, I think it is important to stand behind the concept.
I think that finding a "loophole" is not a very good solution, and won't contribute very much to making this a good deck.

There is no need to be intimidated here.
It doesn't matter if you "cannot draw".
No honest effort should be seen as a failure.
And any honest effort will be far more appreciated than an excuse not to try.

What a wonderful idea. Here's to scrap booking, collage and PhotoShop mayhem!

Oh, and I read about the blue line element...

Investing in the stock market looked like a good thing to do....but its just like devil's food cake. It looks great and yummy, and you pay for it later...puttin' on the pounds + makes your blood sugar drop...energy levels drop.

And not to mention, the addicting quality of the market. So you make a little $$$....its easy, like gambling....invest a little more and a little more.....and then CRASH.

Your design layout, color, everything about this card is clear and dynamic!!!!!!

For those who just joined this thread, we are referring to Marcia's Stock Market Devil card which appears back on page one of this thread.

And over on the thread to post cards in.

I thought it'd be less cluttered if there was a thread for cards and one for posts and one for the lwb.  If you don't think so we can just use this one for cards and posts

Question:

Have we agreed that people should stick with copyright-free images in collages?

I think that was what was agreed last year.

However - the question of photos of photos is legally a minefield, so if I did decided to use a photo of the Mona Lisa I had taken I'd like to see the Louvre come after me....

If this is the case I may have a problem. I have no earthly idea where most of my collected images came from. If that's an issue I'll need to know ASAP.  I always ask for permission to use an artist's original photo, if I can identify/find them for attribution, but it's not always possible.

Tricky isn't it.... I wanted to use some pix from a newspaper.....

Ruling ? Vote ? (PLEASE no....)

How's about each artist takes responsibility for any court case which may follow, etc (this is pretty private, though.... It might not count anyway...)

I think that each artist should make their best effort to use copyright free images.   However, sometimes it's hard to know, in that case the artist has to decide.  If one the card is posted, someone comes up and says no-no-no, so and so owns that, well, it might be a good idea to revise.  But, really, we are a small deck to a niche group, and who would seriously try to sue us?  And expect to get anything other than lawyer fees?

Also, isn't there something on alot of images that they can not be used to make a profit? (like newspapers, etc) No one is making a profit on this, well, other than the printers.

I emailed someone who had a photo online, part of which I wanted in my card, and he said ok. I assume that would work for us?

That's why I did for one of the cards I did in the previous deck. I'm going to agree with skad1 that the individual contributor should take responsibility if an objection arises.

The first diagram is the actual card size and dimensions.  The dashed area is the border which will be done by someone else, your design area is 2 1/2 by 3 3/4 inches.  To make the final design look as good as possible, it is always recommended to work at a larger scale.  Then when the final design is scaled down at the end, it minimizes any little imperfections.  It just looks better.  The second diagram is the the card sized up twice size, just to give you good working dimensions.  You can work any scale you want, as long as the final ratio is 1:1.5.  In other words, 1 inch in the horizontal equals 1 1/2 inch in the vertical.

Quick question:

Is it okay if we work at a much larger size -- say, 8 inches by 12 inches? I am working with acrylic paint and in some instances it is easier for me to work on a much larger scale.

Thanks!

Yes, definetly.  The larger you do your work , the better it'll look at a smaller size.

Um.  Not always.  Fine detail and brush strokes will get lost--smooshed into nothing--if the original is way larger than the final size.

I don't always post when I update the list, so keep checking back to the first poist for cards available.  The list itself does have a date on it, so that should help.  If there are any other changes or things you need to know, I'll put them in that post!

Hi ;-)

Well, the Emperor is finished. And I´ll start painting the 5 of Cups tomorrow. I think I could also do a third one, if there is any need.

If you pop over to the first post in this thread you will see a list of what cards are taken and what's available.  I also use that post to put updated info out.

I am hoping you see one you like, the more the merrier!  You can choose up to 3 cards, then post it here which ones you want, or PM me.

Aw crap:sd

Computer issue this weekend.  Virus compromised many files.  Had to erase, and also remove the file I'd attached here.

Long story short, backing out of deck ... Two of Pentacles and Eight of Wands back up for grabs.

Apologies.

i would like to participate too.

Can the painting be a oil on canvas. I understand that a blue line is supposed to be painted in middle of the diagram is that correct??

Are all the majors taken up???

Sorry i m little confused since new here........:sd

Hello NamastaIndia,

There are still cards available. No majors though, they are taken. It can be any type of art, as long as you can scan it or make a picture that can be published on a card. There has to be a blue line on the card, somewhere in the image. It doesn't have to be in the middle of any diagram, it just has to be present. I hope this helps.

Feel free to join!
